Sunday Sketches -- Terminus To Thomas (D)

And so, 12 months and 14 excellent books later, the epic Year of Hardy is over.  This batch of Sunday Sketches includes drawings from January and February, featuring character sketches from Thomas Hardy's final two novels, as well as one of the author himself, just to make it another full trio and to pay some kind of tribute to him, which seems fitting after being inside of his head so much over the last year.  It's bittersweet to come to an end, but that's fitting considering the books that finished his novel-writing career.
Those Poor Little Fawleys, or, Psst! Arabella's Hair Is Fake
All the Men Are Jocelyn and All the Ladies Are Avice, or, Three Generations of Drama
And here he is:
The Man Himself, or, Ever So Much Angst
Whatever shall I read now?? Oh, I'm sure I'll think of something.  I may also smash all of these character sketches into one big splat one of these days, but we'll see.

Sunday Sketches -- Thomas Teeters Toward Termination (D)

As the Year of Hardy gradually draws to a close, I present my penultimate set of character drawings from some of Thomas Hardy's later novels.  This post features Sunday Sketches from various Sundays from November through December.  I quite enjoyed all three of these books, and they're some of his most well-known, especially the one at the bottom (isn't Tess his most famous??  I think it must be).

The Perils of Drinking, or, Oh Elizabeth-Jane, Your Life!!!
The Woodlanders (1887)
Many Main Characters, or, Beware Country Storms and Sophisticated Doctors
 Tess of the d'Urbervilles (1891)
But Really Durbeyfield (Sort Of), or, Men Are Apparently Scum
(P.S. Sorry about the title of this post, sort of. I really wanted to keep the alliteration going with this series.)

Sunday Sketches -- Thomas the Third (D)

As I continue my epic Year of Hardy, I have another round of characters from the next three books (previous posts here and here have art from the first six novels).  Here are a few drawings that were done on Sundays from August to October.  These kind of run the gamut as far as my reactions go, from one I liked pretty well to one I thought was so-so to one I loved.

Those Loveday Boys, or, Beware Fess Derriman and That Sassy Matilda!
Paula the Powerful, or, What's a Laodicean Anyway?*
 Two On a Tower (1882)
Tabitha Too, Just Because, or, Yes, the Tower Is a Character Too

* By now I know what a Laodicean is, of course, but before I read it, the reference was forgotten and therefore lost on me.

Sunday Sketches -- Thomas Times Three Take Two (D)

The Year of Hardy continues!  A few months ago I posted this.  Now it's been a few months more and I've read a few more of Thomas Hardy's books, so I now present a some Sunday Sketches that took place on various Sundays from May through July.  These include characters from some of not only his most famous, but also my favorite of his books.

The Unearthly Appeal of Miss Everdene, or, Poor Fanny
The Tangle of a Love Hexagon, or, Look, There It is!  Her Hand!
A Tragedy Waiting To Happen, or, Queen of Night and Others

Sunday Sketches -- Thomas Times Three (D)

Today's post has been a few months in the making.  This year I've been reading through a favorite author's entire published works, starting with his literary debut and moving onward chronologically, and the often tragic and always glorious tales of Thomas Hardy have therefore definitely made their way into my sketchbook on the occasional Sunday.  And so, with entries ranging from February through April (but always on Sunday!), I present a trio of character collages from Hardy's first three novels.

Desperate Indeed!, or, One Cytherea Too Many
The Many Loves of Fancy Day, or, Oh, COME On, Fancy
What's a Girl To Do?, or, Poor Elfride and Her Big Blue Eyes
