Disney Un-Disneyed In Color X (D)

Time to wrap up my year-long Disney Un-Disneyed In Color project.

All the creatures.  Can you name them all?

Are these six a little more recognizable in color? Maybe not.

Original sketches for those two can be seen here.

And then as a seasonal P.S. I finally gave in to the hankering to do character redesigns from The Nutcracker and The Steadfast Tin Soldier, which I guess are related in a few ways (ballet, winter, military?).

This was a really satisfying project.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color IX (D)

(Meant to post this yesterday but time's a-wastin', I can't put it off!  Too many things going to do!)

Hey!  Almost done!  Here are a few more Disney Un-Disneyed, this batch three very different types of royalty.

I thought about steering away from blonde but it just seemed to work.

Hair is one of my favorite things to draw soooo.

I intended for this to have basically nothing but white with slightest shades but this works too.

Just a few more P.S.es to round things out!  See you next time.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color VIII (D)

I forgot that when I posted the sketches of these I included Tarzan with the previous batch, so he'll float into this group time time instead. Really close to the end with these!  Sketch versions here (and here).

Golden-haired Jane!

This one is still a stretch but it's a fun addition to the series anyway.

Do you see what I see in the background?

This one is always tricky because it's Disney Un-Disneyed but also Joyce Un-Joyced.

See you next week!  When it will be December. o.O

Cars 3ple (D)

Over the weekend I also finally watched Cars 3, which had 90% less Mater than the second one and was therefore 90% better. Then I started thinking what the characters would look like as humans, while trying not to be too influenced by their vo. I'm not so hot at drawing automobiles but I am into character design.

Here are the sketches with their automotive alter-egos. Is this how you would picture them as humans?

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color VII (D)

It's definitely been a while but here's the next batch.  I hope you're ready for some drama!

Props to J for the inspired background idea.

Beast mode activated!!!

Please forgive my Chinese character work.  I did my best.

I'm rounding the corner for the end-of-year rush!

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color VI (D)

A few more on this fine Thursday afternoon.  Sketches for these here.

This is one of my favorites of the whole series so far.

The broooooding.

I had some color issues with this one but it works.

Almost caught up!

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color V (D)

I missed last week, but it's all good.  Here's the next trio in the Disney Un-Disneyed In Color series.  I always get excited when I reach this point. (Sketch versions here.)

Poor little waif.  At least he doesn't look much like a Hobbit anymore.

I actually have some design issues in hindsight but I decided to leave them be.

All the roses!

Hasta la vista.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color IV (D)

Three literary dudes for the next round a painted Disney Un-Disneyed.  I especially like how Robin Hood turned out.

Merry indeed!

L.A. was short on physical description but I read somewhere that Taran had black hair in the original cover illustrations and I'm totally into that idea.

Two for one!

The sketches for these can be found here.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color III (D)

Time for a few more (sketches here), all done March 2017

I must admit her dress coloring was an inspired decision on my part.

This has never been my favorite but it's sure popular on Instagram.

Oooh, green textured background!

See you next week!

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color II (D)

Here are the next few in the series.

Details, details.

Get ready to see a looooot of digital watercoloring...

He can fly!

Sketches for these here.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color I (D)

I really should have been posting these all throughout the year!  But here they are now, again in batches.  These were all done January 2017.

(Sketch versions here.)

I've posted this one before, but I'll throw it in here too.

Little Wooden Boy!

Let the background texture games begin.

More to come in the weeks to follow!

Checking In, Checking Out (D)

It's been a while since I finished a show and did a montage of character bust sketches, but Bates Motel ending just had that sort of effect on me.

Elements (D)

Related bonus!

Trio of Dude Portraits (D)

Lately I've done a few different sorts of digital portraits.

Exploration of a sketch of an original character who may or may not be Sunny Sundown

Based loosely on a cool guy I saw while interpreting at a church meeting

Random inspiration discovered on Instagram

Until next time.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color Kickoff (D)

A few years ago I did a series of sketches based on the source material for Disney's animated movies and I'm finally making good on my plan to paint them. This project will last for most of the year, and pieces probably will be posted in batches, but I did want to kick things off by sharing the one that started them all.

19 Years [Or So] Later... (D)

I recently read the latest Harry Potter "story" (no comment) but whatever the case may be, it prompted me to finally draw some of these second generation people.

Oh, the angst.

Potters

Weasleys

Malfoys

They were fun, and anyway at least they're canon.

Hipster Harry (D)

We recently played a game of Drawful with a bunch of family and my avatar kind of looked like Harry with a nice big undercut so I thought this idea needed further fleshing out.  What have I done?

Then of course I had to explore this tragically hip/hiply tragic vessel of wizard angst a little more.  I'm way more into this design than I should be.

Then I decided Ginny needed a slight redesign to match the new and unspeakably ironic Harry.  Plus it's been too long since I've drawn these two.

Trio of InstaCharacters (D)

I was looking to do some character design type sketches, so I found some reference and did a few:

Ref @tropa_sertaneja > @mister_rodeio_es

Ref @usmcpics

Ref @betterfellow > @iamgalla

Instagram turns out to be really great for ready models.
