Thanks, everyone!  I had a lot of work to do there at the end of the year but it was fun to do a variety of styles and subjects, and I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever drawn Amy Winehouse or the inside of a 747 cockpit.

Guys' Hair (D)

A couple of semi-related recent arts:

First, a little something I did last week just because 9/11 and #manhairMonday (we're watching this Vietnam War documentary right now so it seems fitting to post). I used to think drawing guys' hair was really boring so I didn't do it very often but modern styles have convinced me it can be interesting. Which style do you like best on this patriotic fellow?

Second, I don't think I've ever drawn my brother-in-law (aka hashtag hair goals) before but when my sister posted this picture of him at the beach I thought someone better.  A lot of my manbun guy drawings end up looking kind of like him so it's funny that when I finally draw him it's with his hair down instead.

Here's the original sketch.  It's really interesting to me how different his face looked once I added color.

Don't let the stern expression fool you, he's basically the nicest guy ever.

Good and Blessed (D)

Our thirdborn was blessed last Sunday.

I thought I might or might not get around to doing something more with it but this gave me a chance to adjust some of the angles and proportions that were bothering me.

Family Christmas "Photo" (D)

I was getting ready to blog about Christmas and then I remembered we didn't have a family photo from the day so I took this sketch I did and painted it and voila.  Close enough.

Trio of Commissions (D)

Three very different commissions!  I'm actually running an end-of-year sale on them but none of these three were really included in that, ha.

Giovanni and Co.  A car!  So outside of my comfort zone, but fun.

Penny Dreadul lineup for superfan Jeff.  I actually know next to nothing about this show so this was fun.

Anniversary gift via ArtCorgi.  A Disneyland proposal?  That I can relate to.

I enjoyed doing all of these!  And I'm glad it's finally past the 20th so I can post that last one, because you just never know.

It was my parents' anniversary yesterday!  I did this some years ago but I still like it.

I should probably draw in pencil more.

Sunday Sketches -- Poppy Pertinent (D)

Recently we happily welcomed a new addition to our family.  She's sweet and snuggly and has quite  a shock of dark hair.  And, of course, now that she's finally here, she's just begging to be drawn, so I present her first portrait by her daddy:

We love you, little one!  You already are and I'm sure you will continue to be the subject of many arts in the future.

I realized a while ago that I hadn't done that many drawings of our little family of three, especially as it was well on its way to becoming a family of four, so I did some over the last couple of months.  It's hard to quite capture this little guy's big (and getting bigger) personality, but I see a lot of him in these.

Sunday Sketches -- Father's Day 2014 (D)

This is my Father's Day contribution for this year. (I actually drew it a little while ago, but it was time to tidy it up and post it somewheres). Of course The Boy is almost always a total delight, but there was that one night when it was just the two of us for dinnertime and things weren't going SO swimmingly. I think most parents (especially new ones) can relate to this feeling.

Sunday Sketches -- Mother's Day 2014 (D)

I promise J will post some arts soon, but in the meantime here's a seasonal selection, my Mother's Day-inspired sketchbook entry last Sunday. Oh, these two. The Boy has lately taken to turning his head to "kiss" your nose if you put it against his cheek.

A Baby For the Drawing (D & J)

We have this baby, and he is a delight.  As for myself I don't think I draw him nearly as much or as often as he deserves, but the time had finally come to immortalize him at this stage in the way that only a digital portrait can.  So here it is, The Boy, happy as can be, at approximately 8 months:

And now, a word from the mother of this child:

I must confess that I also do not draw this baby as much as I should.  Of course there are lots of things I think I should ("should") be doing, but this is one thing I REALLY think I should do more.  As for cleaning the baseboards, well, I'll let those wait.  Anyway, I recently colored up a little doodle from a while ago.  Sometimes when he is asleep he lays on the boppy pillow like this, with his legs scrunched up and his bum out and his hands by his face.  It's one of my very, very favorite things that he does, and it will be a sad day when he grows out of it.  Baby proportions are still a tricky business, but I like how this one turned out. 

But at least now I've made record of it!  Also, I love these jammies.  Claws on the toes??  Come on.

Family Peeps (J)

We had a baby!  I know, I know--old news.  Babies take a lot of time.  I know, I know--old news.  But seriously, they do.  Which means I don't have as much time for making arts as I used to.  I don't really mind this though, because I like that baby so much!  Even so, it was a lot of fun to pull out my beloved tablet and fiddle around in Photoshop with this little family portrait:

I'm still getting the hang of baby proportions, and he looks older than his three (almost four!) months.  Oh well!  He's cute anyway.  That bearded fellow ain't too bad either.
