Princess and Pirate inc. #movember (D)

I was sorry to hear about William Goldman's passing a little while ago. What a writer.

I've also wanted to color this for a while and hey, it's even on trend for #movember. When I was a kid I thought the 'stache was gross but he rocks that look.

Self-Appointed Lord of Star (D) [UPDATED]

I never quite understood the name but I don't suppose that's the point. I've actually drawn Chris Pratt once before and I like this one much better.
This led to this:
17 May UPDATE -- Which led to this:
Now with more Mantis!  Check it out on Instagram to swipe through sketch, gesture and B&W versions, along with a timelapse video.
I'm actually not a huge fan of these movies but these were really fun to draw anyway.

Revolutionaries and Monarch (D)

Last weekend I went to see Hamilton in SLC and it was just what I expected and also had lots of surprises.  I did some arts which were appreciated on Instagram by the actors!

Li'l Moana and Flounder (D)

New commission undertaking!  Could turn out to be a fun continuing project.
A look at the process.  I like the sketch best, ha.

7 APRIL 2018 UPDATE:

The pins have arrived!  I think they turned out pretty great.

A Million (D)

The obsession continues.  I really need to get J in here to post hers too, they are amazing!
I enlisted Instagram to help make my work in progress version a little more dynamic and they were really helpful!  For comparison's sake here's the sketch:

It's Pronounced On-Ed-Ers (D)

Apparently yesterday was #nationalonehitwonder day (since apparently EVERY day is National SOMEthing Day) but anyway, it was a good excuse to take this old sketch idea I had, polish it up and throw some paint on it. Definitely my favorite one-hit Oneders.

I also decided to add Mr. White, marking the second time I've drawn Tom Hanks, in the last month and ever, because Faye always seemed a bit lonely down there.

Here's the original, circa 2012.

Guys' Hair (D)

A couple of semi-related recent arts:

First, a little something I did last week just because 9/11 and #manhairMonday (we're watching this Vietnam War documentary right now so it seems fitting to post). I used to think drawing guys' hair was really boring so I didn't do it very often but modern styles have convinced me it can be interesting. Which style do you like best on this patriotic fellow?
Second, I don't think I've ever drawn my brother-in-law (aka hashtag hair goals) before but when my sister posted this picture of him at the beach I thought someone better.  A lot of my manbun guy drawings end up looking kind of like him so it's funny that when I finally draw him it's with his hair down instead.
Jeph
Then I wanted to try something simpler and a little more graphic like I had originally envisioned so I did another take:
Sand texture is sandy.
Here's the original sketch.  It's really interesting to me how different his face looked once I added color.
Don't let the stern expression fool you, he's basically the nicest guy ever.

Good and Blessed (D)

Our thirdborn was blessed last Sunday.
I thought I might or might not get around to doing something more with it but this gave me a chance to adjust some of the angles and proportions that were bothering me.

Sketch version.
Still cute either way!
He is a sweet boy and can rock seersucker.

Epic Hair (D)

We watched Tangled Before Ever After last night and I had some story/character issues but it was nice to see it more or less in 2D at last.  Here's some painting practice from today:
And the original sketch from 2010 (!):

Crazy Expressive Eyebrows (D)

We started watching season 2 of #Poldark last night. I'm pretty sure these two were cast for their wild hair and crazy expressive eyebrows.

19 Years [Or So] Later... (D)

I recently read the latest Harry Potter "story" (no comment) but whatever the case may be, it prompted me to finally draw some of these second generation people.
Oh, the angst.
Potters
Weasleys
Malfoys

They were fun, and anyway at least they're canon.

I Don't Care (D)

Gestures (with just a pop of color) based on basically my new life theme song.

Detail of the Big Finish
Sing it, Judy.

Herc's New Look (D)

So the Olympics kept me thinking about Hercules and it'd been forever since I drew him (though goodness knows I drew him plenty back in the day, though very ill indeed I'm sure), so:
And then I thought he looked lonely so:
And I was thinking it was probably time for him to get a trim since his style was looking a bit dated:

(along with a couple other hairy fellows, including some sketches of yours truly on various mornings)
And THEN I thought I should flip him back the way I drew him in the first place and give him the whole marble bust treatment since he seemed to be asking for it:
Thanks for everything, Herc, it's been a real slice.

Hipster Harry (D)

We recently played a game of Drawful with a bunch of family and my avatar kind of looked like Harry with a nice big undercut so I thought this idea needed further fleshing out.  What have I done?
Then of course I had to explore this tragically hip/hiply tragic vessel of wizard angst a little more.  I'm way more into this design than I should be.
Then I decided Ginny needed a slight redesign to match the new and unspeakably ironic Harry.  Plus it's been too long since I've drawn these two.

Devil Who Dares (D)

I did this as a sketch but wasn't totally satisfied with the likeness es so I used it as an excuse to do some painting practice.

I think they look a little more like them now.
Then that was fun so I did this:

And then I couldn't stop myself so this happened.
 Someone please stop me.

They're a Bunch (D)

I meant to post this a few weeks ago.  We've been rewatching the Brady Bunch movies for the first time in at least a decade and I can't believe 1) how well I remember them and 2) how funny (and dated!) they still (already!) are. It's hard to pick a favorite in this, but I really love how Carol and Alice turned out.

Unimpressed Kida (D)

Kida is unimpressed.  I'm not sure about what, but maybe because she wasn't included in the Disney Un-Disneyed lineup.
Then I did a color study because I've been meaning to paint this for like years:

New Kids On the Star Wars Block (D)

We finally watched our DVD of this movie. It only took us two days and we took turns almost and actually falling asleep. But these new kids on the block were pretty fun to draw!
