Commission: Drew and Emily (D)

Today I just about finished my end-of-year commissions and it turns out there were quite a few of them this year!  I'm really grateful anytime anyone entrusts such a special gift (and certain amount of expenditure) to my hands, and I always love to hear back that the recipients are pleased.  Here's one I did for Drew and Emily to commemorate their engagement at Walt Disney World (something J and I can certainly relate to!).

I'll post more commission in 2018.  Happy New Year!

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color X (D)

Time to wrap up my year-long Disney Un-Disneyed In Color project.
All the creatures.  Can you name them all?

Are these six a little more recognizable in color? Maybe not.
Original sketches for those two can be seen here.

And then as a seasonal P.S. I finally gave in to the hankering to do character redesigns from The Nutcracker and The Steadfast Tin Soldier, which I guess are related in a few ways (ballet, winter, military?).

This was a really satisfying project.

Potters In Winter (D)

We're currently obsessed with The Greatest Showman, but until those inevitable arts come along...

Today we went to this Christmas In the Wizarding World pop-up merchandise attraction at the mall and it was pretty cool. This is a sketch from almost ten years ago that I tidied up, added some textures and shadows and highlights and the snow effect I always wished it had and now it looks like I imagined it when I first drew it. Magic indeed.

Original from my first reading of HPatDH in 2008:

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color IX (D)

(Meant to post this yesterday but time's a-wastin', I can't put it off!  Too many things going to do!)

Hey!  Almost done!  Here are a few more Disney Un-Disneyed, this batch three very different types of royalty.
I thought about steering away from blonde but it just seemed to work.

Hair is one of my favorite things to draw soooo.

I intended for this to have basically nothing but white with slightest shades but this works too.
Just a few more P.S.es to round things out!  See you next time.

WED (D)

It was someone's special day yesterday! Guess who! No cheating.

Amazingly my first drawing of this guy.

Hint: it's fitting that the @kyle.t.webster brush I used to paint this is called Classic Cartoonist... That may actually be why I picked that one. The sketch also seemed a fitting inclusion.

Fresh Figure Drawings for November 2017 (D)

After a brief hiatus after Inktober (post still pending!), I was glad to get back into #figuredrawingFriday.  You can see all of these including the many dancers referenced on Instagram @drewgrahamart.
Inspired by Ballet West's Carmina Burana

More Carmina Burana

Superhero or supervillain?  You decide.  Ref: Instagram @b.haze.l

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color VIII (D)

I forgot that when I posted the sketches of these I included Tarzan with the previous batch, so he'll float into this group time time instead. Really close to the end with these!  Sketch versions here (and here).
Golden-haired Jane!
This one is still a stretch but it's a fun addition to the series anyway.

Do you see what I see in the background?
This one is always tricky because it's Disney Un-Disneyed but also Joyce Un-Joyced.

See you next week!  When it will be December. o.O

Cars 3ple (D)

Over the weekend I also finally watched Cars 3, which had 90% less Mater than the second one and was therefore 90% better. Then I started thinking what the characters would look like as humans, while trying not to be too influenced by their vo. I'm not so hot at drawing automobiles but I am into character design.

Here are the sketches with their automotive alter-egos. Is this how you would picture them as humans?

Commission: Lindsey / Ellie & Mac (D)

This is a commission I did for Lindsey, the brain and hands and beating heart of Ellie & Mac, thanks to whom I've been blessed with a long string of work over the last few months. Like I posted over the weekend, I've had some commission drama lately, but Lindsey has always been a model client, and nothing says personalized like a one-of-a-kind profile picture portrait.
Here are some of the lineart pieces I've done for her designs:

It's been fun and different to jump into the world of online sewing/patterning/fashion!

By the way, stay tuned, I'll be announcing something exciting regarding commissions very soon!

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color VII (D)

It's definitely been a while but here's the next batch.  I hope you're ready for some drama!
Props to J for the inspired background idea.

Beast mode activated!!!

Please forgive my Chinese character work.  I did my best.
I'm rounding the corner for the end-of-year rush!

Tribute To Lost Potential (D)

The other  night we finally gave BatB '17 a second chance and I still was barely whelmed. Emma Watson just looks so bored the whole time. Well, she alternates between smug and bored. Alas for lost potential.  Anyway, I remembered I started a sketch of Actual Belle in New Belle's wedding dress some time ago so it was a good time to finish it up, add a couple more and throw color at them. You can tell by the sizes here my preference order.
Actual Belle looks better in this costumes than Movie Belle (sorry, Hermione)
And then while I was at it, this has been on my honey-draw list for a long time now, based on a favorite misheard song lyric. Do you get it?
Waiting by a something something.
