Austen Portraits (D)

Yesterday I did an art, based on a rewatch of not one, but two versions of Sense and Sensibility, and continuing a portrait theme that I started a few years ago.
Sensible and Sensibilitous
Then as I went to post this I realized I've never posted the other two portraits!  Here you go.
Handsome, Clever and Rich

Obstinate, Headstrong Girl

(The original sketches are here, here and here.)

Fab Four (D)

Only after a special request from my cousin's daughter did I realize that I had never drawn these guys before.
Don't try to assign any particular time based on their hair and/or clothing but you can go ahead and recognize who's who, that would be fine.

Trio of Dude Portraits (D)

Lately I've done a few different sorts of digital portraits.
Exploration of a sketch of an original character who may or may not be Sunny Sundown
Based loosely on a cool guy I saw while interpreting at a church meeting
Random inspiration discovered on Instagram
Until next time.

Coloring Contest Results!!!

Today I announced the results of my first-ever coloring contest.  You can read all about it (and find out where to find these artists) on Instagram here.

It was really fun to see my drawing come alive in so many unique and creative ways, and it was reeeeaaally difficult to narrow it down to just a few winners.  Maybe I'll do another one of these one day.

Epic Hair (D)

We watched Tangled Before Ever After last night and I had some story/character issues but it was nice to see it more or less in 2D at last.  Here's some painting practice from today:
And the original sketch from 2010 (!):

Giselle On the Brain (D)

Once in 2009 I did these sketches after watching Enchanted (do ignore the off-model bits):
Then a few years later I did this working the idea a little more (along with another one here):
And then to round it all out I ended up polishing it up and adding a few more to end up with this.

The idea was all her costumes from the movie in the beautiful style of the animated prologue.  After introducing our kids to parts of the movie (after they've been listening to the soundtrack for a year) these were in my head all weekend and finally escaped.

Cinderellys (D)

Every year we watch a Disney animated movie for Valentine's Day. This year it was Cinderella. This is a random gesture sketch from 2012 and a quick painting exercise to freshen it up.
Accurate coloring FTW.
Then we thought we'd give the remake another try to see if we'd like it better the second time around... Not so much I'm afraid, but that dress! It sure is one.
Talk about blue.

Commission: Hans and Janelle (D)

Fun commission via ArtCorgi:
I updated it after delivery to add body hair and smokey eyes because these things are clearly important.

Fresh Figure Drawings for January 2017 (D)

Lots of collages this month!  In case you're interested you can always follow along with these weekly on Instagram @drewgrahamart.
It was the 6th of January after all.
Inspired by the passing of James C. Christensen, a favorite artist from my formative years.
In recognition of my Gold's/VASA membership expiring.  Ref: Instagram > #VASAfitness > various
Detail from the previous because I liked how loose and gestural it turned out.  Ref: Instagram #VASAfitness > @tycoy/@jeremyquerido
Good month!  What to do today?

P.S.  How long did it take me to sign my arts the right year after it changed?  Almost a month, that's how long.

Family Christmas "Photo" (D)

I was getting ready to blog about Christmas and then I remembered we didn't have a family photo from the day so I took this sketch I did and painted it and voila.  Close enough.
Sketch version for fun:

Meet the Artist 2017 (D)

I was actually planning on doing this at some point but then I was tagged on Instagram so that sealed the deal! Yay for art memes and harmless bandwagons. So, 👋 everyone.
I want to do another one just do I can get more specific or add more things to each side (like pizza and Survivor/hypocrites and being bored). Also if I did it again I think I would trade cookies for sticky rice and Hmong eggrolls. Qab kawg.

And I can't believe I neglected apostrophe abuse on the left side... I'll just make myself feel better by lumping that in with bad writing.

J has done these in the past, maybe she can be persuaded to post one.

Fresh Figure Drawings for December 2016 (D)

A pretty varied set for this month.
Ref: figurosity.com

Sketch version for fun
Inspired by a pending evening at the Yule Ball
Santa-inspired without reference (obvious?) with a touch of While You Were Sleeping
I was a little loose with my definition of figure drawings this time around, which was fun for a change.

Angel Emulation (D)

Inspired by the whimsical, ethereal work of the recently departed James C. Christensen, a morning sketch turned painting attempt with a so-so acrylic brush tool effect thing.  I was sorry to hear about his passing, he was one of my favorite artists from my formative years.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color Kickoff (D)

A few years ago I did a series of sketches based on the source material for Disney's animated movies and I'm finally making good on my plan to paint them. This project will last for most of the year, and pieces probably will be posted in batches, but I did want to kick things off by sharing the one that started them all.

Christmas Painting Practice (D)

Over Christmas I did some paintings based on a few recent entries in my digital sketchbook, so here they are:
If our cat were a human he would obviously be a samurai
Hipster Clark Kent would totally wear an S-shirt because #irony
I wanted to paint a pretty lady so Italian model it is.
Such a diverse grouping!  It's always fun to see sketches come alive with a little color.
