Exploration of a shot from the previous week
Inktober is starting in a few days so I'm not sure if there will be much time for my usual things, so look for more of these later in the fall.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color VI (D)

A few more on this fine Thursday afternoon.  Sketches for these here.
This is one of my favorites of the whole series so far.

The broooooding.

I had some color issues with this one but it works.
Almost caught up!

It's Pronounced On-Ed-Ers (D)

Apparently yesterday was #nationalonehitwonder day (since apparently EVERY day is National SOMEthing Day) but anyway, it was a good excuse to take this old sketch idea I had, polish it up and throw some paint on it. Definitely my favorite one-hit Oneders.

I also decided to add Mr. White, marking the second time I've drawn Tom Hanks, in the last month and ever, because Faye always seemed a bit lonely down there.

Here's the original, circa 2012.

Little Shoppa (D)

"On the 23rd day of the month of September, in an early year of a decade not to long before our own, the human race suddenly encountered a deadly threat to its very existence. And this terrifying enemy surfaced, as such enemies often do, in the seemingly most innocent and unlikely of places..."

Commissions Aplenty (D)

Aaaaand here are some recent commissions from the last few months to round things out.  All very different projects from different sources.
Anniversary preset from Rachel to Jermiah, two great Survivor friends!

A totally different kind of proposal piece.  Her hair went through two extreme color changes (I left off most of the text because it seemed personal, and also... it's in Spanish).
Cover art for a single written as the theme to a one-woman show in London (commissioned by a friend of Kimberley from the Great British Baking Show, who saw my drawing of her and contacted me... you just never know).

Dancing BFFs via Instagram.
I have a few more to catch up but I'll leave them for next week.  I love the variety of work I've been commissioned to do lately!

Fresh Figure Drawings for August 2017 (D)

I'm also past due to post the latest in Figure Drawing Friday selections.

Too many dudes.  I'll have to fix that in September.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color V (D)

I missed last week, but it's all good.  Here's the next trio in the Disney Un-Disneyed In Color series.  I always get excited when I reach this point. (Sketch versions here.)
Poor little waif.  At least he doesn't look much like a Hobbit anymore.
I actually have some design issues in hindsight but I decided to leave them be.

All the roses!
Hasta la vista.

Guys' Hair (D)

A couple of semi-related recent arts:

First, a little something I did last week just because 9/11 and #manhairMonday (we're watching this Vietnam War documentary right now so it seems fitting to post). I used to think drawing guys' hair was really boring so I didn't do it very often but modern styles have convinced me it can be interesting. Which style do you like best on this patriotic fellow?
Second, I don't think I've ever drawn my brother-in-law (aka hashtag hair goals) before but when my sister posted this picture of him at the beach I thought someone better.  A lot of my manbun guy drawings end up looking kind of like him so it's funny that when I finally draw him it's with his hair down instead.
Jeph
Then I wanted to try something simpler and a little more graphic like I had originally envisioned so I did another take:
Sand texture is sandy.
Here's the original sketch.  It's really interesting to me how different his face looked once I added color.
Don't let the stern expression fool you, he's basically the nicest guy ever.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color IV (D)

Three literary dudes for the next round a painted Disney Un-Disneyed.  I especially like how Robin Hood turned out.
Merry indeed!

L.A. was short on physical description but I read somewhere that Taran had black hair in the original cover illustrations and I'm totally into that idea.
Two for one!

The sketches for these can be found here.

I Know You Know (D)

Over the weekend we finished watching Psych.  It wasn't my top favorite ever, but I enjoyed it and then a few Sunday Sketches later I had this.  These character sketches are so hit-and-miss with me, but some of them turned out okay.

Disney Un-Disneyed In Color III (D)

Time for a few more (sketches here), all done March 2017
I must admit her dress coloring was an inspired decision on my part.

This has never been my favorite but it's sure popular on Instagram.

Oooh, green textured background!
See you next week!

Digital Sketchbook Street Rat (D)

(I just realized that I never posted these so I thought I might as well now.)

A few weeks ago we properly introduced our kids to my favorite. Any opportunity to draw this guy. No ref but of course I tried to channel @glenkeaneprd. Also, after being inspired by a quick online search, I gave him a little redesign with longer hair and a beard, which of course led to you know what. I think he rocks it.
Then I realized as I was drawing these that I did a similar study of Jasmine last year so I thought I better also put some color on these. Then I could fix a couple bits too.
And since I'm here, I might as well post these sketches I did earlier this year, inspired by the original story treatment, a lot of which was resurrected for the Broadway version:
I've actually been friends with these guys for many years, thanks to the Music Behind the Magic boxed set.
Proud of Your Boy indeed.  Character exploration for Aladdin's ma
Then I had to try her out with li'l Aladdin and meeting her future daughter-in-law.

Like I said, any excuse to draw this guy!

I'm So Glad It Was You (D)

I've had this in mind for a couple days but I wasn't feeling it so I decided to put it off until I was, and I'm glad I did.  We rewatched this movie over the weekend and it's still so good.  They really just don't make movies like this anymore.  Don't you love New York in the fall?
